I've just finished watching the film and we have here, I believe, a prime example of a film that needs to be seen more than once if one really wants to discover what it's all about. On the surface, it's a stream of consciousness look at mid 60's youth in France (and elsewhere, I suppose), examined both from within and from a distance. All manner of subjects are touched upon in what must have been, for its time, a revolutionary way. Some subjects are trivial, others more significant. The tone shifts from documentary to drama to comedy and may be frustrating for viewers to follow but I guess life is kind of like that, if you really think about it. To conclude, be patient with this film and see it more than once...with some time between viewings. It's an abstract work of art that will reveal different things at different times. It also would be a good film to watch with a group of people, all of whom will see it from various perspectives. Love it or loathe it, possibly, but I don't think one can be indifferent about it.
