This is a true masterpiece! I only wish they would make more movies like this one.

A little bit slow.

In the directorial hands of Martha Fiennes we get a treatment of this Russian lit classic that's at times slow and ponderous. I'm not sure suits it. There are long takes of the lead dressing, slow, poignant looks, sort of attempting to create harmony through cinematic stills.
Liz Tyler is better than I expected, and Ralph Fiennes plays his part well. Llives that end up being empty and hollow because for whatever reasons because love has eluded them, and arrives too late for much to be done about it. Nice realistic sets, art direction, constumes, etc., though it's a little underpopulated. The music is fine and suitable.

I wouldn't mind meeting a "beautiful, passionate young girl named Tatyana but my beautiful and passionate wife of 36 years may disagree. Even though I'm a man (obviously, maybe?) I love , love stories.

Beautiful version of Eugene Onegin! Actually I was the one to asked the GVPL to buy it (I rented it for the first time from the grocery shop at Mount Washington of all places!). I watch it every so often.

This is one of my favorite movies, with an incredibly good cast, beautiful sets, wonderful music. The importance of marriage, put above personal feelings, was quite unexpected (and welcome!) since I never read the poem-novel, Eugene Onegin, that inspired the movie. (Published again 8/7/12)
