Faithfully based on Anne Sewell's classic novel, this beloved horse story is told by its hero, the gallant Beauty, whose joyous and heartbreaking life takes him from idyllic days on a country squire's estate to London's hard, cobblestoned streets, through decades of owners both kindly and harsh.

Oh how I LOVE this movie. I love the book, and I feel like this movie version does an excellent job at re-telling the book. I can't ever make it through the movie without tears, and I doubt you'll be able to either.

It's told from Beauty's perspective, and really gives you a look into the life of a horse as it travels from one home to another. It really makes you think how badly the moving around can affect them. I'm a horse-lover as it is, but this really made me love them more as a child and has me coming back to the movie over and over again as an adult. It's been years since I'd seen it, but now that I've seen it again, I remember how much I love it and want to keep it in rotation to watch every now and then. I'd love for my boys to grow up loving it like I did.

I highly recommend it- and if you've not read the book, please do! They're both a treasure!

It's the closest retelling of Anna Sewell's original work that I've seen, and this is a novel that has been dragged out of the barn a few to many times. This version is, as the book is, told from the point of view of the horse. Though it was handled well in the book, I found the narration by Alan Cumming almost annoying as he voiced the horse. At least with the book the voice in your head is anything you imagine, not something forced on you.

If you love the story of Black Beauty, you'll love this movie. It's a solid retelling of the original tale, with believable acting, great scenery, and it stands well as a period piece with great sets.

So, whether you happen to be a serious horse-hugger, or not - 1994's "Black Beauty" (impressively directed by Caroline Thompson) is an emotionally-charged tale that I'm sure will tug on your heart-strings in a very special way.

Beautifully photographed by Alex Thomson, "Black Beauty's" story of trust and betrayal (which was based on Anna Sewell's novel of the same name) was set in England in the late-1800s.

As the viewer is soon to find out - Awaiting the magnificent, black stallion in this top-notch story are both good times and bad times - And, yes, there are times for this fine steed that are sure to break your heart, as well.

Regardless of your age, I guarantee that "Black Beauty" will, most certainly, leave you moved by its first-rate story-telling.

This fourth (and best) film adaptation of Anna Sewell's famous novel (written in 1877) is a beautiful, heartfelt re-telling of the well-known story about a magnificent black stallion.

Sewell had written Black Beauty as her way of drawing attention to the cruel treatment of animals.

Set in Victorian England, Black Beauty's story is imaginatively narrated (for the benefit of the viewer) from the perspective of the horse - That way the story comes, literally, straight from the horse's mouth.

This truly noble beast goes through many owners, both good and bad, until he finally finds true happiness and contentment.

Black Beauty is a wonderful "family-oriented" film that is surely guaranteed to bring tears of joy, and those of sadness, to the eye.

If you're a true admirer of horses - See Black Beauty.

I love this story. I think it the first time I heard it was the first time I took an interest in horses.
