What a well-done film adaptation! Guess it helps to have the playwright do the work... Lovely, pointless existentialist romp around the edges of "Hamlet". The glimpses of that play's action are fleeting and delightful and confusing. Better than most adaptations at having a real "theatre" feel to it, while also benefiting well from what film offers as a medium.
Yyyeah, I don't know the first thing about Hamlet. It was Shakespeare. Okay, I don't know the second thing. I feel like someone walking into into the middle of a Star Wars or Marvel movie having never seen one before. I don't get it, and just don't care. Watched about an hour and a half and decided enough was enough. Probably best to actually know Hamlet first.
A moste excellente Hamlet fanfic for ye olde Shakespeare buffs! This comedic tour-de-force mixes wordplay with swordplay, the existential with the ridiculous, and arrives at something both deeply profound and riotously entertaining. The movie has made me a lifelong fan of Tim Roth and Gary Oldman. Highly recommended in both print and movie versions! Statement!
Brilliant !!!!! hilarious dialogue and perfect acting all around !!!! seen it many times and always find something new to laugh at ~ 420 love Shakespear
Tom Stoppard is genius. The banter between Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, two bit players from Hamlet, played by Gary Oldman and Tim Roth respectively is the highlight of the film. There are some bizarre moments in this, truth be told, but the charm and entertainment factor is certainly there. It will definitely make you re-evaluate your opinions on Hamlet, that's for sure.
The disk is in very bad shape. Probably time to replace this copy!
I've heard great reviews about this movie, but, unfortunately, this version does not come with subtitles/closed captioning. It was difficult to understand, and we stopped it 20 minutes in :(
deep and hilarious, but slightly creepy
