This movie shows what is wrong with liberal thinking. Family is no longer valued, cherished and respected. There are no ethics, boundaries, decency. Sodoma and Gomorra. Where are we heading?

Great acting. Disgusting movie.

Darren (played by Craig) and Mother (Reid) are selfish people with terrible ethics.

Wish I had never watched it.

Kureishi (My Beautiful Laundrette) seems to have a very bleak world view and low opinion of people. There seems to be no decency in anyone in his little world, no matter their age, circumstances or past experiences. That's what I found in what I've read by him, and also in this bleak little film. Good acting and a fair script, and a well-made flick, if you reckon that's enough.

Anne Reid becomes more and more beautiful with every scene. The only cringe-worthy moments were of her daughter, what a horrid person.. At the end, the mother is rejected and ejected from the family but the loser boyfriend/carpenter is still very much accepted as carpenter and boyfriend. Weird family. The mother should sell her house, dis-inherit the family and move to a new life. The whole experience may have been to awaken a spark that she thought was forever extinguished.

Cringe-worthy 90% of the time. But it does capture a reality most of us will never know...

Anne Reid takes on a shocking role and plays it to perfection. Almost disturbingly believable.

Naked Daniel Craig. Anything else? SPOILER: After an adventurous 90 minutes about sex between an older woman and a much younger man, the man is discovered to be insane. Of course. Sigh.
