In 1553, with the blessing of the Royal family, the churches were plundered of their riches and the finest farmlands were stolen. A cousin to the infamous Henry VIII, Lady Jane Grey disapproved of the way her fellow nobles behaved. The sheltered 16-year-old, by a strange turn of events, is crowned Queen Jane, ruler of all England ... but only for just 9 days.

This is a historical drama originally produced as a motion picture in 1986.
To the visiting scholar Roger Ascham, who found her reading Plato, she is said to have complained:
"For when I am in the presence either of father or mother, whether I speak, keep silence, sit, stand or go, eat, drink, be merry or sad, be sewing, playing, dancing, or doing anything else, I must do it as it were in such weight, measure and number, even so perfectly as God made the world; or else I am so sharply taunted, so cruelly threatened, yea presently sometimes with pinches, nips and bobs and other ways (which I will not name for the honour I bear them) ... that I think myself in hell."
In the film, however, Jane talks to Mary's chaplain John Feckenham, who tries to convert her at the end, but Jane doesn't give in to his efforts.
Nonetheless, Jane becomes friends with Feckenhm and allows him to accompany her to the scaffold.
It is a gripping and heart-wrenching story.

I enjoyed seeing a 19 year old Helena Bonham Carter in this melodramatic period drama. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great.

Really good, but a sad ending to a short life. The true story of Queen Jane, the nine days queen.

A fictionalized and highly romanticized film adaptation of the story of the nine days queen. Helena Bonham Carter physically looks the part of the diminuitive queen, but she failed to capture the strong and intelligent young girl that was Jane Grey. Cary Elwes was quite entertaining as Guilford Dudley. Some parts were quite touching while others fell flat. Not a bad movie, just don't expect it to be accurate.
