Angels and Demons was a monster hit with a movie to boot. What's not to like? Plenty. The whole premise is off including how the main characters would refer to each other. Advanced academics refer to each other as “Mister” or “Ms”. In real life they refer to each other as “Doctor” reflecting their PhDs. Then there's the premise that CERN has a whole raft of advanced technologies including the development of a process to generate significant quantities of anti-matter. The idea that work of this scale could be performed without anybody but the scientist doing it even knowing about it is totally absurd.

The story is too long and drawn out with an anticlimax and extended denouement. For much of the novel protagonist Robert Langdon is trying to figure out clues, which he does, but always just a bit too late. The violence and death is gruesome and gratuitous. The final plot revelations don't hold water.

On a positive note there are some good action sequences and Brown's research on the Vatican was obviously extensive and interesting.

This book although very graphic, was so enganging. it had me from the first page. I could not put it down.
