Concerns the last twelve hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. In the Garden of Gethsemane near the Mount of Olives, Jesus is betrayed by Judas Iscariot. Jesus is condemned to death for blasphemy and brought before Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor of Judea, for sentencing. The roaring crowd demands his death, so Pilate orders his crucifixion. Jesus is severely beaten and made to carry his cross up to Golgotha, the hill outside Jerusalem, where he is nailed to the cross. With his mother looking on, he dies.

If you like blood, you will love this movie. Of course, that could be said about many films directed by Mel Gibson. It is technically well put together, and well-written for what it wants to be, again like most of Gibson's films. Additional points for historical atmosphere, dialogue in Aramaic and Latin, and so on. Just don't go in expecting a lot of deep character interaction, Jesus' message, or anything like that. Viewers who don't share Gibson's traditional religious beliefs should prepare themselves for some antisemitism.

This was a realistic movie showing how hard it was for Jesus. I loved it, though it was creepy at some parts, which obviously is because it is rated R.

I don't want to use my comment to preach, but I feel like I have to.
To trcookIIImddmd (his/her comment below):
Maybe the Islam religion is as bad as you say it is. But you don't go around saying that they should all die. Everyone deserves a chance with God. God calls every person to repent and believe. It's our choice whether we accept His calling or not.
Catholics are NOT cannibals; Jesus himself told us at the Last Supper that we should consume His Body and Blood in the Eucharist. And John 6:48-51 says:
[Jesus said,] "Yes, I am the bread of life! Your ancestors ate manna in the wilderness, but they all died. Anyone who eats the bread from heaven, however, will never die. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever; and this bread, which I will offer so the world may live, is my flesh."
Jesus clearly states that He is the Bread of Life. If you deny it, you are denying the Bible.
The Holy Spirit entered the Virgin Mary so that she could give birth to the Son of God. She never had copulation with any man. God our Father is Jesus's dad, and so the Holy Spirit (who is one with the Father and the Son in the Trinity) conceived Jesus in Mary's womb. Luke 1:35 says:
The angel replied [to Mary], "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God."
There is plenty of evidence to support the Bible. Just read 'The Case For Christ' by Lee Strobel.

This film was gripping and incredibly bloody, but portrayed an accurate picture of Jesus's sacrificial death.

Im not using this comment section to preach I just want to use it to give my review of the movie. I thought it was a great movie, with a great cast, and a great director. Every actor played there part perfectly, especially Jim Caviezel, and Mel Gibson did a great job.

Very accurate? How stupid is that comment? He was there? No. This is an interesting movie, albeit very brutal visually. The shameful truth which is clearly shown is that it was the Jews who caused Jesus' crucifixion, so maybe they deserve some of the mayhem they've received over the centuries. Christianity is a good religion in this day: Christians have pretty much grown out of slalughtering each other as well "infidels." islam is and always will be a vulgar, grossly filthy concept since its originator was a back-stabbing child molesting cowardly perv. islam must die for there to be peace in the world; there is no moderate muslim--if a mus, he is avowed to slaughter innocents or enslave them. mus need to die; all three billion of them. No, there was no virgin birth, unless Mary was a frog; transubstantiation? Catholics are all cannibals. But, if Christianity can help the weak be better people, it is a good thing.

Watched it last night for the first time. Very accurate, bloody and well done. Best film of Christ's Passion ever filmed.

My dear friend who died one day. My dad did the same thing while building a church, nailed a wooden Jesus to a cross for display. My friend payed my dad a visit that day, that my dad never forgot. Jesus have been in my life since birth in the womb, and throughout my life time. He told my dad not to worship idols like the cross, it was a bad reminder to Jesus. Look to the heart instead.

Some people will pass on this movie because they have heard it is anti semitic. Others will pass because they don't believe Mel Gibson has any credibility. What a shame.

This is a beautiful movie that shows how love can grow from hate and the suffering of one man to ease the guilt and suffering of the many.

I particularly enjoyed standout performances by Jim Caviezel and Hristo Shopov.

This is a very long movie. You will feel exhausted at the end of this movie as you watch in great detail Christ being wiped for his entire march. Or you can just fast forward and not have to endure this or better yet, don't bother with this movie.

Devotees, sermonize elsewhere.

Frightening or Intense Scenes: The scourging is VERY intense. Actually, the whole movie is intense. And when Satan is talking to Jesus, that part is creepy and intense.

It was hard to finish watching, so much cruelty. No one could change Jesus to the bad side no matter had bad they treated him.
