This film won the Golden Globe award for best foreign language film. It tells the story of Solomon, a young Jewish boy who hides his Jewish identity in Poland during WWII. This pretense of being a German enables him to avoid the concentration camps and extermination. In the film, German gentiles in his presence are forced to pull off their pants to prove they have never been circumscribed. He is often within minutes of being exposed (no pun intended). This is a masterpiece of cinema which mixes humor with terror. Humor whenever Solomon gets away with his little charade. Terror whenever he or those around him are exposed to the barbarism of WWII.
