GREAT set of 6 tunes composed by Oliver Nelson, originally released in 1961. Fab band with Nelson on alto and tenor sax and six other great players in the combo.
Fun to hear the country music flavor in tune 'Hoe Down'.
This recording, along with Miles Davis' 'Kind of Blue', was/is one of the premier post-bop records bringing in a new period/flavor of jazz music.
Made a big impression of me when I heard it back then - still maintains it's eminent listenability.
Amazing album - great writing and solos
One of my favorite jazz albums of the 60s. It's an all star lineup and a must hear classic album.
