I was shocked at how pervasive the direct manipulation of reporters at FOX/MSNBC were. There were statements issued each morning on what the reporters should report on and essentially how to cover it. One of them said, take the first part of so-and-so's speech, but 'we don't need to follow it through from start to finish'. On one program, they were told if they had an anti-war guest, they had to have two pro-war guests. It became routine - if they had two liberals, then they had to have three republicans. This is all at the network and affiliates which have the slogan "Balanced and Fair". The conclusion tells people what to do about it: complain to the station, complain to the FCC. There is even an independent republican on there who is concerned how corporate control narrows the base of debate. Another pundit says how this limitation weakens democracy for the next generations.

free speech? well, not on fox.
fun to watch; fox's crisp line of good and evil (aka:republican and not republican) portrayed on fox.
so many people concerned about the effects of this and volunteering to pour thru hours of the material to make a great critique.

Good but a little dated. Certainly factual and the subject of the documentary has been why I have enjoyed Jon Stewart's show for a decade.

Outfoxed is a documentary that takes a look at Fox news channel's claim of "Fair and Balanced" reporting in a very decidedly critical and mocking way. All of the interviews are aimed at making Fox and Rupert Murdoch out to be tyrannical conservative soldiers in a war against free thinking. Simply produced and well edited, this unapologetic crucifixion of the Fox News channel and Murdoch's media empire in general serves to further demonize the already nefarious reputation of this so called news outlet. I enjoyed and agreed with the main points but would have been less alarmed by possible hypocrisy had they included at least one interview in defense of Fox and/or Murdoch. But in what seems just above a slap dash production, I can forgive the one sided presentation for its honesty and up front liberal agenda. The accompanying website at outfoxed.org has up to the minute information on the continuing campaign to sift through the right-wing smokescreen of Fox's fairness and balanced reports.

Outfoxed attempts to demonstrate the extreme right-wing bias of Fox News Channel's claim of "Fair and Balanced" journalism. Using mostly former Fox staff and media analysts, this movie is made up mostly of interviews. A large amount of actual Fox News material is edited and presented to illustrate the message of this documentary. The story arc is told beginning with Rupert Murdoch's purchase of the station and the subsequent agenda foisted upon the channel's reporters and presenters. Daily memos were distributed detailing what was and was not to be addressed on the various news shows. Events like a Ronald Reagan birthday celebration and the Bush vs. Gore election become stark examples of Rupert Murdoch's agenda of how news media and politics should intersect.
