It's very slight, but charming and a nice little time capsule of the 90s film. Contrary to the other remark (one "BuffBlack," which sounds a little adult film star-ish.), Parker Posey has a long and highly engaging career and recently wrote a book.
Awful beyond endurance. I gave up after the first 15 minutes. Horrible script, horrible "acting," crappy editing, lighting, directing, etc. It's all so amateurish technically and brazenly offensive in every other way. Small wonder Miss Posey's slim excuse for a career utterly tanked. There's light comedy, and then there's Party Girl -- a celluloid insult to humanity.
I love this film I love Parker Posey and I love New York !!!!
This movie cracks me up every time I watch it. I have borrowed it countless times. It reminds me of my young adult days when I lived back east. I want to know more about who wrote it because it was really accurate about some of the party and club scene, for me in Michigan, in the 90's although they are in NYC. Love Mary's cute Lebanese boyfriend in this, so adorable. I bought the soundtrack so I can reminiscent while driving to work. I am a geek and it is cool with all the library scenes and the great music score all in one!
Everyone who loves the library should see this film - it's the storied love affair between a reluctant librarienne and the Dewey Decimal system : they meet cute, spend an ecstatic night together, misunderstandings ensue, a break up, then all is resolved unexpectedly and "happily ever after". You'll see! Parker Posey's character is even based on a real live NYC girl (I was told).
You can't be too harsh with this film. It's tongue and cheek. It's a comedy that laughs at itself. This is a light, light, LIGHT fun comedy! It's not serious in any way. It doesn't have any message and none of these people are supposed to be real or realistic. It write a harsh critique of this film is in it itself missing the point. Sit down in a comfortable chair, turn your brain completely off and laugh. This story will make you happy if you let it.
