Two stories - a 100 plus year old murder and a present day men/women relationship - are interlaced in this mystery by Kathryn Bigelow. It could have been a mess had it fallen to the hands of a lesser director. As it stands it is a film that holds your attention. I find Sean Penn, with his inseparable cigarette, to be the most annoying element in this film.
