Released in 1973, The Dark Side Of The Moon (TDSOTM, for short) would be the 8th album from British, progressive rockers, Pink Floyd.

TDSOTM is considered by many to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time. It has gone platinum 15 times and upon its initial release remained on Billboard's album chart for 741 solid weeks.

Since its release, TDSOTM has played, significantly, on the direction of modern-day music. With each side of the album beginning and ending with a heartbeat, TDSOTM's thematic lyrics (written by Roger Waters) explore different aspects of the human experience, from empathy, to solitude, to consumerism, to mental illness.

Now more than 40 years old, this gem of yesteryear contains 10 tracks. 3 of my favorites are Breathe, Time, and Us & Them.

"Dark Side of the Moon" can not receive too much attention. Made over 42 years ago at Abbey Road Studios, it still sounds like a rock and roll masterpiece of music. My favorite cuts are "Time" and "Money". Who can forget the cash register ringing over and over? "Dark Side of the Moon" spent 7411 weeks on the Billboards charts. It is truly an amazing record that is timeless as a musical experience!

If you are 50+ and grew up listening to pink floyd then you will like this... perfect for reading the paper on sunday morning. Great left vs right audio so be between the speaks (it's great cranked in the car)

Tracks 1-9 are the based exactly on orig DSOTM album (name & order), Each cut a little different in approach and likeness to original version. Tracks 10-13 are other variations( i like 13 best).

The live tracks give this album new life (not that it needed it).

It seems hard to believe that this album is almost 40 years old. Pink Floyd was a band that knew how to make solid and timeless music. I would say this album was the one that made them into a progressive rock band. Recommended for all fans of rock music or any of the derivative genres.

"Dark Side" is one of the greatest albums in the history of rock music. And the odd thing is that Pink Floyd followed it up with an album that some feel is even better -- 1975's "Wish You Were Here." In fact, PF guitarist David Gilmour and the late PF keyboardist Rick Wright both declared "Wish You Were Here" as THEIR favorite Pink Floyd album.

Personally, I don't think the music on "Dark Side" is quite as good as the music on "Wish You Were Here." Lyrically, though, "Dark Side" is far more universal -- ANYONE can relate to subjects such as greed, war, growing older, or simple ennui. HIGHLY recommended.
