A Noir style story set in 1990's. It successfully conveys the feel of the time period and the genre.

This book does not entirely succeed. It tells the story of an insurance loss adjuster who stumbles across a fraud. It is intended to be humorous but does not quite make it.

This is a sharp little novel of contemporary London, driven by a wholly realistic (and well-realized) set of characters. Boyd has mastered the small thriller...and this one takes you backstage in the odd, arcane world of insurance adjusting (sounds boring: it ain't) through the eyes of a man who's reinvented himself (to avoid his family's past) but at what cost? A terrific read by a really great storyteller/
