The premise and setting are eerie and surreal, though the presentation is very mild.

I have read several books by Dean Koontz, this was one was not so good. A very weird story, didn't make a lot of sense, a "stupid " ending, I just plain thought it was bad.

I am a fan of Dean Koontz, but this book should have been 1/3 of the size. His desire to describe things in so much detail detract from the story. An entire chapter describing the deceased family that opened the library where 2…

What started off as a lyrical story of a boy rejected and tormented by the society, ended up in a completely mind-blowing way. Koontz took his already skilled, captivating and meaningful prose to a whole new level of…

Great take on an end of the world novel, always love Koontz and his character development, fast pace, and deeper meaning.

Powerful book. Deep and rich with super suspense. The ending is a knockout. A pleasure to read. I give it 5 stars.

I love Koontz' writing, & his lyricism & wondrous metaphors imbue this book with a purity & peace that gives hope of renewal for anyone who will only read to its end (and it is not a long book). By far his best work in years, this book…

Years ago when I first discovered Dean Koontz, I read everything he wrote. It's been a while since I read one of his books, I think the last was the Frankenstein series. This one was hard to get through. You can imagine the scene…

Beautifully written.

I started reading this book expecting a typical Koontz mystery/spooky story. This book was so morose and slow I had to struggle to get through the first half of the book. I didn't make it to the end. If you are expecting Koontz's…

This is my very favorite book of all of his books. The ending was surprising and so perfect that I cried. Koontz seems to be moving away from such horrific scenes and giving us hope for a better world.

Though I liked this book, it isn't one of the author's best. It does follow his usual theme of two people finding romance during bizarre circumstances. If you like Dean Koontz, then you will like this book. If you haven't read him…

Hugely successful horror writer Koontz turns instead to a much more sensitive, and even Christian(!), story about a young man whose appearance disgusts anyone who looks at him meeting up with a girl who cannot stand anyone touching her.

Once again Mr. Koontz hits it out of the ballpark with another winner!!!! Loved the complete innocence & purity of the two protagonists. Makes me wish for a sequel please!

I loved it. I loved Addison's view of the world and the creative sci fi feel. Mr. Koontz, you have officially gained a new fan.

Somewhat similar to Koontz's Odd Thomas books, the story's main character is an affable outsider for not immediately known reasons. The writing is lyrical and profound at times, and at others is fairly brutal. He handles both deftly. The…

A little too weird for my liking.
Jan 21, 2014StarGladiator rated this title 5 out of 5 stars
A lyrical, novel within a parable, with a blending of life philosophy and artful prose. This novel seems to be the logical evolution after "The Good Guy" and "Relentless" - - might be too heavy for some expecting only entertaining…

Not unusual with Koontz's books, this was a strange one. Always trying to figure out what was so terrible about the main character and his father. Had to plough on to the end to find out what the 'problem' was. At that point, one was…
