SPOILER ALERT!! If you want to read an excellent book about a man dealing with loss, skip this book and read "The Accidental Tourist" instead. I have loved Anne Tyler's books for almost 60 years. I was surprised that this book was of such…

Loved this short, spare novel. Tyler can bring you along with such realism, foreshadowing, and trips that reveal the past in such a way as to put you there. Going along believing until you realize you were mixed up in the characters…
This book in its surprising simplicity is worth a read in how it manages to mix grief and loss with humour. The 2 main characters are funny in their different borderline Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) personalities. I appreciated that…
A patron review from the Adult Summer Game: "A nice easy read about loss and love. People find love later in life and find the happiness they're seeking."

The male voice too many times did not sound authentic. I found myself thinking; a woman might say that, but not sure a man would have used that expression.
Well , I truly wish I had liked this book better than I did . Your early work was so wonderful ( Homesick Restaurant , Searching for Caleb )However , I will never stop reading your work

Anne Tyler never disappoints although this is not her best novel. The story follows the trail of grief to its natural resolution. Her characters are quirky as usual and yet we find something of ourselves that we can forgive by sharing this…

As a person who has experienced the death of a spouse, I found this novel to be eerily perceptive. Probably the best book I've read in the last 10 years.
Aaron and Dorothy seem an unlikely married couple; a marriage that ends too soon when a tree falls into their sunroom where Dorothy is sitting causing her death. What comprises this story is Aaron?s look at their life together as he…

This book keeps hitting you with surprising revelations about the characters, kept me interested. Touching - I keep thinking about it for days afterwards.
It seems we can learn a lot from the dead especially when they come back for a visit to let us know what really happened when they were alive. Often our memory of events is quite different from others, and so it is for Aaron and his wife…

I think Anne Tyler is a fabulous author.
I started this book not sure I would like it as well as the others but I kept reading and loved it in the end.
Anne Tyler has such a wonderful way with words and her characters are quirky.

I enjoyed this book. I have lived in communities across the United States (including Baltimore) so I often like authors that "bring me back" to old memories. Written in a very subtle manner so not a page turner. The characters seemed real…
