I'm glad to see The Decemberists have retained their rich sound with the newest release, and I'm also happy they've decided to drop the sea shanty songs which I always found slightly corny. In my opionion, this album is a real step up for the band.

With lyrics such as "panoply of song," "the summer swells anon," and "yellow bonnets garland all the lawn," I am immersed in pleasant reverie each time I listen to The Decemberists. Excellent prose and gifted musicians!!!

What a great album. I've never listened to this band before but this album is one of the best reviewed discs of the year so I gave it a try and loved it. Extremely catchy and beautiful songs. Reminded me of the best of Blue Rodeo or even The Band. Some similarities to the Jayhawks too. The music is a combination of Alt-Country, folk, and rock. I could listen to this over and over.

Nothing special. OK tunes, nice production. Just nothing really stands out. Preferred their more ambitious earlier releases.

Perfect "singing in your car" music.
