Add a CommentI'm glad to see The Decemberists have retained their rich sound with the newest release, and I'm also happy they've decided to drop the sea shanty songs which I always found slightly corny. In my opionion, this album is a real step up for the band.
Best REM tribute album I've heard.
unrelated to project
With lyrics such as "panoply of song," "the summer swells anon," and "yellow bonnets garland all the lawn," I am immersed in pleasant reverie each time I listen to The Decemberists. Excellent prose and gifted musicians!!!
What a great album. I've never listened to this band before but this album is one of the best reviewed discs of the year so I gave it a try and loved it. Extremely catchy and beautiful songs. Reminded me of the best of Blue Rodeo or even The Band. Some similarities to the Jayhawks too. The music is a combination of Alt-Country, folk, and rock. I could listen to this over and over.
Nothing special. OK tunes, nice production. Just nothing really stands out. Preferred their more ambitious earlier releases.
Perfect "singing in your car" music.
