I should have just reread Pride and Prejudice

I enjoyed reading about Elizabeth and Darcy again. I almost didn’t continue after slogging through the Prologue but I’m glad I did.

You can’t go wrong with Jane Austen and PD. James. ❤️

Great Jane Austen continuation. More modern, obviously, but adds an interesting mystery story to the end of Pride & Prejudice, including additional character development.

I think this was a serious insult to Jane Austen.

A mystery sequel to our beloved Pride and Prejudice, Death Comes to Pemberley imagines a murder and subsequent trial involving the infamous George Wickham, his best friend Captain Denny and, of course, the Darcy family. ⁣ ⁣ The book was…

I read this for book club. I watched the TV series first so that made this less suspenseful and I knew what the clues were. I think I might have enjoyed it more if I didn't know what was going to happen. I think this is a very…

If anybody can do justice to Jane Austen’s beloved characters, it is P.D. James. This book chronicles the lives of the Darcys six years after their marriage, and the events of one night, the eve of their most important ball, which throw…

Not up to the quality of either author. If you want to read something, try rereading one of their originals.

I love anything Austen, but was very disappointed in this book. The attempts to recreate Austen's characters failed in my opinion. Not good at all. It was more enjoyable when we got to the mystery as then the author was in her natural…

Wonderful read combining the best Pride and Prejudice fan fiction with a suspenseful mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Well, I am not a true Janeite (no surprise, I suppose) because I have the very unpopular opinion of disliking Death Comes to Pemberley. I expected a mystery set in Jane Austen's world, but what I got was a snorefest. That's not to say…

I love reading about the continued stories of Elizabeth and Darcy and a mystery seemed like it might be fun. I had heard quite a bit about this when it came out, but it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The writing and dialogue was…

Boring. Oddly enough, I was half way through this before I realized that I had read it before. It didn’t engage me the first time, and it still does not. I didn’t find the wit and social satire from Jane Austin, although James adopts a…

Wow! Some people actually liked this book! I thought it was dull and plodding, slow and wordy. This is not a mystery, there are no clues that could allow you to solve the case as you go along. Odd behavior by Colonel FitzWilliam is…

Another fun murder mystery by P.D. James. I expected a good crime novel, and the book delivered. It helped to have read Jane Austen to know who was who, and not to expect a sequel.

Whle i've enjoyed Austen and p & p in the past, it was so long ago, like the previous commenter said, I was "mystified" and--ultimately--bored to death. It was a staff pick, which i usually enjoy (I find some gems!), i sent this one back…

If you haven't read Jane Austen you will be completely mystified by this! Interesting experiment and fun for Austen fans to read. But nothing more.

The mimicry of Jane Austin was very good. The plot...not so much. It was a bit obvious, actually and while I thought some of the loose threads from Pride and Prejudice were cleverly wrapped up, it was not a real revelation. I also thought…

I was excited to read this book in preparation for BBC One's adaptation of it. P&P is one of my favorite reads and I looked forward to this book. It was a good story, but somehow I didn't find P.D. James' portrayal of Mr. Darcy to…

A rather mildly entertaining mystery from PD James, who handles Austen's characters with silver tongs: the result is so reverential that it never really comes to life. A shame, because the premise is a promising one.

I'm almost as fond of P.D. James as I am of Jane Austen, so I'm disappointed to report that Death Comes to Pemberley is a merely adequate novel. James engages in far too much exposition, and her tribute is sadly lacking in the witty…

I had such high hopes for this one and it let me down. I don't think P.D. James got the characters right and it wasn't very exciting.
