Have read up to ch.46. Fascinating piece of work. A story teller at the apex of his powers, though lacking the emotional impact of Covenant of Water. Still, a wonderful read.

I really enjoyed this book. The story is epic in scale with a lot of great characters. Some enlightening historical context and a lot of medical procedural descriptions that I found more fascinating than I would have imagined.

This lengthy, exceedingly well-reviewed book did not thrill me as much as it did others. It could be described as a saga and, I guess, I more appreciate intimate stories set in a particular space and time (as opposed to a lifetime). …
