I wasn't as impressed as most people seem to be with this book. The characters are extreme caricatures who don't just talk — they "roar", "hiss" or even "bray." The author's use of very complicated similes was constant and over-the-top. The quality of the translation was questionable — awkward wording that no English-speaker I know would ever use, and even grammatical & spelling errors throughout. If you have a soft spot for curmudgeons, there are definitely some rewarding elements in here… but in general, this book frustrated more than entertained me.I wasn't as impressed as most people seem to be with this book. SImilar to the comment below, I found his tone over-the-top and on the ranting side, and that's even though I fully agree with much of what he has to say. Still, has some really fascinating mock lessons in there (I learned why a triangle's area is height x base / 2 in one simple diagram!). I just wish it came with more of the same to better demonstrate exactly how he suggests we spark kids' interest in math.SImilar to the comment below, I found his tone over-the-top and on the ranting side, and that's even though I fully agree with much of what he has to say. Hilarious storytelling and great illustrations. Pug fans will absolutely adore this one. My 3-yr-old wanted to read this over and over.

A very sweet story about a crocodile who doesn't fit in his family... My almost-4-yr-old absolutely loved this book and I found it really charming.

This felt a bit like a high school project — oversimplified, with somewhat cheesy video effects, and a narrator who seemed just a little melodramatic. I was interested in the interviews and wished there'd been more shown of them. The last interview was the most touching part of the whole film — I just wanted to hug that kid. Quick enough watch, but nothing earth-shattering here for most people… at most, this film might be helpful for someone young and new to Canada. This felt a bit like a high school project — oversimplified, with somewhat cheesy video effects, and a narrator who seemed just a little melodramatic. Quick, quirky read. For the subject matter, it's actually quite light and uplifting.

I can see how some people would feel this is a case of TMI or silliness, but if you're interested in people and relationships and family dynamics, it's a pretty fascinating and well-woven (and nutty!) story. Some of the re-enacted scenes with Polley herself are a bit forced, but I thought most of the re-created home movies were well done. Sarah Polley has some very cool people in her life.I can see how some people would feel this is a case of TMI or silliness, but if you're interested in people and relationships and family dynamics, it's a pretty fascinating and well-woven (and nutty!) story. My 3.5-yr-old son loved this book. Each double-page spread has an activity on it — finding differences, finding the right path, etc. Charming, fun illustrations, and lots to look at. We got a lot of mileage out of this one.

An absolute riot. Definitely for the goofy parent who doesn't mind laughing at him/herself. I don't think my kid would've gotten the humour 6 months ago, but at 3.5 yrs old, he roars with laughter when we read it.

This book is a riot. My husband is reading it to my 3.5-yr-old and we're all howling with laughter, kiddo included. I'd recommend it for 3 and up for the kid to interact (there are jokes in it, including a knock-knock) and get the humour. Absolutely hilarious for the first few chapters. I was sitting at a coffeeshop and laughing maniacally while reading this... Then it kinda plateaued and became more a collection of mildly entertaining anecdotes about her kids; still amusing but basically not much different than what happens with you get a bunch of parents together and people share stories. Overall fun and quick.Absolutely hilarious for the first few chapters. I was sitting at a coffeeshop and laughing maniacally while reading this... Tons of fun for my 3.5-yr-old, so much to look at, lots of vehicles in action to learn about, and funny situations too. Plus, there's the challenge of finding the elusive and teeny-tiny "Goldbug" on all the pages.

Slightly less fluffy than most rom-coms. An easy watch with one plot twist that had me rolling my eyes... but still an enjoyable, funny film, unless you aren't a fan of Zooey, as she's up to her typical antics (though somewhat toned-down).
